Lake Placid village is not situated on Lake Placid, but on the shores of Mirror Lake, one of the most beautiful of the lakes of Adirondack. Nestled in the surroundings of pristine natural beauty, Lake Placid village has managed to maintain much of its original 19th century small-town charm.
Although famous since hosting the Winter Olympics, Lake Placid has been popular for since the start of the 20th century when the rich and famous converged in the area to partake in winter sports. Today, a tight-knit cluster of shops, hotels and restaurants frame Main Street, on which traffic often backs up, especially during the summer. Lake Placid also boasts some of the most scenic trails in the North Country, ideal for rugged hiking while providing backwoods experiences and spectacular views.
