Room

Earl’s Regency Hotel has 104 rooms split between the main building, the South Wing and the Knuckles Wing. An ideal choice of accommodation in Kandy, each of our beautifully appointed rooms has its own balcony with views over the river, lush hills and distant mountains. Local materials are used throughout, from the wooden floors and furniture to the herbs in the custom-made toiletries. The relief of a young palm tree that you’ll see on your bedroom wall is a Sri Lankan symbol of prosperity and growth. All rooms are supplied with every comfort, including fan and air conditioning, TV with satellite and local channels, a fully-stocked minibar, tea and coffee-making equipment, free bottled water, hairdryer, telephone and safe. For families we can provide free cots for babies or a third bed at a price. We also have some interconnecting rooms if you would like more privacy.

Deluxe Room

Our luxury hotel in Kandy offers deluxe rooms that are spacious and well laid out, with a writing desk, couch and tub chairs, as well as a private balcony. Rooms in the South Wing have a separate shower cubicle and bathtub, while those in the main building and Knuckles Wing have a bathtub with overhead shower.

Premium Room

Our Premium Rooms come with kingsize beds, bathrobes and slippers and LCD TVs and DVD players (you can borrow DVDs free from the front desk). Junior Suite

Dining

The culinary brigades at Aitken Spence Hotels are among the best in Sri Lanka, having won numerous awards over the years. The restaurants at the Earl’s Regency Hotel combine the best traditions of international fine dining with a Sri Lankan touch, making the meals here a memorable and unique experience. Traditional Sri Lankan food is a wonderful mix of taste, colour and aroma. Because the island’s location made it a popular stopping-off point for foreign traders, indigenous spices such as cinnamon and cloves have been enriched by diverse culinary influences from around the world. For example, the Arabs introduced saffron and rose water, while the Portuguese not only brought chillies to the island but also culinary terms such as “temper”, which is derived from the Portuguese word temperado, meaning to fry and season. The Dutch introduced recipes rich in eggs and butter, like Breudher, a Dutch Christmas cake. There are also Malay influences, such as the steamed dessert watalappam and the rice dishes pilau and biriyani.

Far Pavillions Restaurant

Our main restaurant can seat up to 175 people and provides a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains. It’s the setting for our comprehensive buffets, where you can choose from delectable displays decorated with amazing pastry or sugar sculptures. There is always something going on in our show kitchen, from omelettes and waffles at breakfast to roast lamb or chicken shawarma in the evening.

Mirabelle Fine Dining Restaurant

Mirabelle offers Mediterranean-themed fine dining with a hint of the Middle East. With domes etched on the glass walls and swathes of fabric draped from the ceiling, it feels like eating in the sumptuous tent of an Arabian prince. The à la carte menu roams the shores of the eastern Med and north Africa, with dishes like Moroccan lamb meatballs, spiced salmon fillet with braised lentils or Lebanese smoked salmon sandwich. Alternatively, our set menu showcases the technical wizardry of our chefs in intricate constructions such as cumin-scented lobster, salmon and scallops with organic tomato seaweed essence and tomato ice cream, or smoked duck confit with Chinese pepper sauce and orange and spring onion salad. Naturally, we have an international wine list to accompany your meal.

Mountbatten Lounge

The Mountbatten Lounge is open 24 hours a day and is an ideal place for a drink or snack – maybe  a pizza, steak or cheesecake. Large TV screens also make it a popular gathering place to watch cricket or other important sports fixtures! During the day, the full-length windows give great views of the river, or you could catch up with business or your email using the free Wi-Fi. On Saturday evenings we have live music on the piano.

Whether you’re in the mood for a cocktail before dinner, a singalong with friends, or a beer by the pool, our bars can provide a suitable tipple for all occasions. We also serve drinks in the Mountbatten Lounge. We stock a wide range of international and local brands of beer, wine and spirits. Lion and Three Coins lager are made in Sri Lanka, while arrack is the local spirit, distilled from coconut juice. Every full moon day of the month is declared a Buddhist poya holiday. Sale of liquor is prohibited on this day. We will post advance notices around the hotel when this occurs. Spice Bar See how many of the spices on display you can identify in this eponymous bar before trying our award-winning Arrack Blossom cocktail – a mixture of arrack, pineapple, orange juice, soda and grenadine syrup. Or how about an Elephant’s Kiss, which combines arrack, Benedictine, fresh lime and ginger, topped off with ginger ale and a dash of grenadine? We also serve snacks – maybe teriyaki salmon with miso rice, or a club sandwich. Ministry of Music – Karaoke Bar This is downstairs from the Spice Bar, and is popular at weekends with both local and international visitors! Dip ’n’ Dive Bar Right next to the swimming pool, this provides cold drinks and snacks.

Swimming Pool

Our freeform swimming pool, following the contours of the natural rock, is perfect for a lazy soak or a more active game of water polo. We provide free towels, sunbeds and sun umbrellas – please ask the pool attendant. We also have a small children’s pool so the little ones can splash in safety. Our pools are attended by lifeguards, but please supervise your children closely. The poolside Dip ‘n’ Dive Bar provides cold drinks and snacks.
