Which airline should I fly to Dubai on

22 direct flights and hundreds of indirect flight options DAILY from the UK to Dubai

November 20th, 2018
Dubai has been one of the master innovators in aviation for the last 20 years, so it will not come as a surprise that many years ago Dubai subscribed to an open skies ideology. This means that there are no restrictions on who can fly to Dubai- or rather any airline from any country can fly to Dubai. The choice of flights from the UK is therefore vast. So the question is that with so much choice, which airline should you fly to Dubai on.

Direct flights to Dubai from London or indirect flights to Dubai from regional UK airports

Emirates and British Airways both offer direct flights to Dubai from the UK. In addition to this indirect flights to Dubai are available on a wide range of airlines. Many European airlines fly to Dubai via their respective hub cities. European airlines offering indirect flights to Dubai from the UK include Air France, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, Swiss and Turkish Airlines. Those going on holiday to Dubai from outside of London will find that European airlines offer a distinctive advantage for their Dubai holiday. Because European airlines fly to cities all over the UK, a flight via Europe to Dubai could be quicker and more convenient than a flight via London. KLM for example offers flights to Dubai via Amsterdam from Aberdeen, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Durham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Humberside, Leeds Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich and of course London Heathrow.

How many direct flights on Emirates from the UK to Dubai?

Any article on flights to Dubai without mentioning Emirates would be a travesty. Emirates Airlines is of course an international aviation success story and envied by its competitors all over the world. Emirates is now a household name in the UK, and for good reason. Emirates offers a total of 19 daily flights from the UK to Dubai. Of these, ten flights alone are from London with three daily flights from Gatwick, six from Heathrow and one from Stansted. IN addition to this, Emirates operate three daily flights from Manchester,  two from Birmingham and Glasgow and 1 from Newcastle and Edinburgh. A flight on Emirates to Dubai is an event to be celebrated in itself.

The award winning service, outstanding cuisine and market leading inflight entertainment offering over 1,000 channels of movies, TV and music. As you will find in reviews about Emirates, the airline is reminiscent of the opulence and exhilaration of aviation from a generation ago. Direct flights will of course be a little bit more expensive than indirect flights, but if your budget allows, Emirates is clearly the airlines of choice for flights to Dubai.

British Airways offers the only Premium Economy option!

British Airways also offers direct flights to Dubai from London Heathrow. British Airways is a well established brand and are highly regarded for its quality of service. Whilst British Airways will certainly not disappoint, it only offers a total of 3 flights a day meaning that your choice of flight times are limited. A significant advantage for those flying on British Airways is that the airline offers a premium economy product. Premium economy offers wider seats with more leg room and a range of value added services.

The other Gulf Airlines to Dubai

If you want to enjoy the standards of service and quality of inflight product that is synonymous with Emirates, but cannot afford a direct flight on your budget, the you should consider Etihad and Oman Air. Both these airlines are arguably even better than Emirates which is saying something. Qatar Airways flights previously operated to Dubai via Doha and transfers between flights were as quick as 45 minutes which meant that you weren’t  adding more than a couple of hours to your total journey time. Unfortunately, Qatar Airways had to stop flying to Dubai from 2017 after the dispute with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE. Etihad operates flights into Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates and transfers from Abu Dhabi airport to Jumeirah take only 50 minutes which is only 30 minutes longer than a road transfer from Dubai airport to Jumeirah. With less queuing at immigration, and a smaller airport in Abu Dhabi, the time it takes from landing to getting into your transfer vehicle will also be shorter if you fly into Abu Dhabi. You can find out more about flying into Abu Dhabi as an alternative to Dubai in our blog section.
