Even at the heart of the downtown area, there is something that’s not quite modern about Winston-Salem. And this is a positive thing. The Triad’s second largest city nicely blends the present and the past, to create a low-key, pleasant destination for both business people and history buffs.
Bethabara and Old Salem are 2 historical areas that celebrate the Moravian Church’s hardworking members. If you only have one afternoon to visit here, Old Salem hosts a period reconstruction with delicious cookies that are not to be missed. Situated at the intersection of Trade and 6th streets, the Downtown Arts District is the best place to experience the Winston-Salem of the present-day. Once famous for its thriving tobacco market, the area is today an ocean of happening art galleries. The city limits offer plenty to do on a United States holiday with 2 impressive museums, a film festival, a symphony orchestra and the North Carolina School of the Arts that’s internationally renowned.
