The Oberoi Cecil, Shimla

During the times of the British Raj, this was an exclusive hotel, known for its fabulous ballroom dances and fashionable clientele. 130 years later, this elegant, restored grand heritage hotel retains much of its colonial charm.    

Located at the quieter end of the bustling Mall Road, near the Viceroy Lodge, The Oberoi Cecil is announced by a crisp, white façade and smart, green terrace railings. Inside, a lobby punctuated with marble fireplaces leads guests to a comfortable lounge, which is lit from above by a skylight that spans the length and breadth of the hotel's signature atrium.

Room

Located off richly carpeted corridors that encircle the expansive, sky-lit atrium, the rooms and suites afford fantastic views across the terraced garden, towering cedar trees, or the Shimla valley. Each room is decorated in classic colonial style, with a king-size bed, Burmese teak floorboards, ottoman and leather topped bureau desk. The well-lit bathrooms, tiled in deep red granite and evergreen marble, are fitted with a full-length bathtub and vari-pressure shower.

The restaurant is located in what was, in colonial times, the most chic ballroom in Shimla. With views over the mountains, cedar-covered valley and Cart Road – where fashionable ladies of the British Raj would ride in horse carriages – invite guests to take in the authentic ambience while savouring the unparalleled Western, pan-Indian, and special local Himachali cuisine.
